What is Trolley to the Polls?

  • ●  The Raleigh-Apex chapter of the NAACP have teamed up The Great Raleigh Trolley to create a safe and creative way to transport voters to the polls during the early voting period. This partnership will allow anyone who does not have transportation --including students and elderly voters in particular—to go to the polls completely free of charge.

  • ●  The trolleys will be operating from 8am through 7pm on the weekdays during the early voting period - October 15, 16 & 19-23, & 26-30.

  • ●  Trolley to the Polls will be operating during the weekdays of the early voting period

    • ○  Oct 15 & 16

    • ○  Oct 19-23

    • ○  Oct 26-30

  • ●  Trolleys depart each pickup location at 8:00AM sharp. Trolleys will be continuously

looping from the pickup to polling place from 8am-7pm

○ LAST departure time from the pickup location may be as early as 5:30 or 6pm depending on how long the line is at the polling place. This way the trolley drivers have time to collect all voters from the poll and return them back to the original pickup location by 7pm.

Can I reserve a seat/time in advance?

● Absolutely! For those planners out there, you can notify us that you intend on riding the Trolley to the Polls and reserve your seat/timeslot here:

Are reservations required? Do you take walk-on voters if I didn’t book in advance?

● All are welcome! A reservation is not required, so bring your friend/neighbor/family member along with you to vote early. We’re simply offering voters to sign up for a seat for planning purposes and they’ll have priority boarding since we’ll be expecting them.

Which polling place will I be taken to?

● The Trolley will likely take you to the closest early voting polling place to your pick-up location.

As of Oct. 12th, Roberts Community Center and Wake County Commons Building are looking like the primary polling places, with Green Road Community Center and Barwell Road Community Center as back up options.

Do you know how long the round trip will take?

  • ●  For the preset pickup locations (i.e. Alamo Drafthouse, Shaw University, Saint Augustine University, the Capitol Building, etc.) the Trolley ride will range from 10-20mins each way.

It’s difficult to give an accurate timeline on how long it will take to cast your vote during early voting, typically earlier early voting dates and early mornings/mid-day are faster than going on weekend days, late afternoon/early evenings, and the last couple of days of early voting. So better to plan for the earlier in the early voting cycle and earlier in the day if you can.

  • ●  If you’re a large group that reached out to book a separate pick up at your church, office, active adults living center, then trolley travel times may be in the 20min range, each trip/there and back.

Is there an official hashtag or social media handles to tag in my posts?

● YES! #TrolleyToThePolls is the official hashtag, please use it. Be a proud early voter! Plus using the hashtag along with a photo of your voting experience with Trolley to the Polls will automatically enter you in to a raffle! See next question for more details.
